Introducing New LKW-Maut Regulations in Germany
15 September 2023
As part of the forward-thinking Climate Protection Modernization Package (Klimaschutzprogramm 2030), the German government is ushering in significant changes to LKW-Maut, effective December 1st, 2023. These reforms are geared towards a greener future, aiming to curb carbon emissions and foster long-lasting sustainability. Here’s a breakdown of the key updates:
- CO2 Surcharges: Starting December 2023, a CO2 surcharge of 200 EUR per ton of CO2 emitted by commercial vehicles will be implemented. This translates to an additional approximate cost of 0.16 EUR per kilometer.
- Maut Adjustment: There will be a substantial increase in Maut fees, rising from 0.19 EUR per kilometer to 0.35 EUR per kilometer.
- Euro 6 Standard Equality: Beginning 2024, Euro 6 trucks will be charged on par with LNG/CNG in terms of Maut. Rest assured, our eco-conscious fleet exclusively comprises Euro 6 trucks or higher.
- Expanded Maut Application: LKW-Maut will now be applicable to commercial vehicles weighing over 3.5 tons.
Looking ahead:
- Futuristic Infrastructure: By 2025, a cutting-edge virtual infrastructure network will be in place, specifically tailored for battery-electric and hydrogen-powered trucks. This includes dedicated charging and hydrogen refueling stations for heavy-duty trucks.
- Rail Freight Revolution: By 2025, the goal is to achieve a 25% market share for rail freight transport. To accomplish this, earnest endeavors are underway to fortify, modernize, and digitize the railway system.
Embrace these pivotal changes as Germany steers towards a more sustainable and environmentally conscious transportation landscape.
